A LITTLE WAY DIFFERENT

A Little Way Different” was the debut single of Reggae artist, Trevor Sparks, known to me as Uncle Ricky. He defined his own sound through Lover’s Rock songs and R&B renditions on Dancehall beats. Sound System pioneer and record label owner, Count Shelly helped to push Trevor’s debut single by putting him in touch with his friend at record label, Digital English. Count Shelly is better known to me as my Great Uncle Sun. Other than blood, ‘A Little Way Different’ is what ties my two Uncles together and essentially kickstarted my Uncle Ricky’s music career. ‘Everyman do his ting a little way different’ is the opening line of the song, and my own interpretation is that no ones path is the same and you shouldn’t be looking to anyone else for approval or validation of your own success. Both of my uncles weren’t classically trained in singing or musical production, it was something they were passionate about and ended up making into their career. I decided to create this project as a way to celebrate and pay homage to both of them. I only had the pleasure of meeting my Great Uncle Sun once, and unfortunately never got the chance to meet my Uncle Ricky before he passed away. The project showcases my own designs using content from both of their musical archives and old family images
